That does mean 7 qts, but there is no way your truck takes 7 quarts, I have a 5.9L and it does not take 6 quarts, It only takes 5. Check your owners manual and take it back to them and show them it does not take that much and get your money back. I have seen lube joints "forget" to add a new filter. I had the oil changed in my Grand Cherokee to be safe before a long trip and I got about 200 miles down the PA turnpike in the middle of the night on a steep mountain ascent (sounds made up but it is not) and I looked in the rear view and could not see anything. It was pure smoke, pouring out the back, I reached under and hand tightened the filter and it stopped leaking,. they didnt tighten the friggin oil filter. There are only so many thing to do when changing oil, tighten the oil filter is the most important after adding oil. Geez!!!!

6 quarts fro the 4.7l....I use Mobil1, it is 29.00 for 6 quarts and 7.99 for the filter (k&n). Lube places are a rip-off, escpecially on a truck that I can practically sit under in my drive way and change the oil. now my wifes Neon is a pain to change

they may have added 6.5 qt's to bring the level up to the full line, 6 will usually put it in the safe area.... and he is talking about the 4.7l ...the 5.9 is a completely different engine which take between 6 and 6.5 depending on how long you drain it and if you check the dipstick when you are done. my 5.9 takes 6 to put it in the safe area

Thanks, everyone. I also called Daimler-Chrysler. The official word is (no matter standard(?), synthetic, 5W30, 10W30) 6 quarts. When you change the filter also with the oil change, the filter will soak some up. Therefore, I see what Blown5.9L is saying. BTW, - it's a long story - but I will NEVER go to that Valvoline again.

When I bought my new Ram the dealer offered me a coupon book with 28 coupons each entitling me to an oil change/new filter/lube for $200. That breaks down to $7.00/oil change and you do get Mopar oil filters. Some sort of a deal offered through Daimler Chrysler. Coupons are good through year 2010 and are good at any Dodge dealer in the USA.

Mopar filters are just repainted Frams. They rank near the bottom of the list for filtration ability. The Amsoil SDF series and Mobil 1 filters and ranked as 1 and 2 for quality and filtration. If you buy the Amsoil sdf15 filter, it you'll need a little bit more oil because it is a larger filter.

anderg,

I'd ask for your other half quart back.
