it's not a cover, it is part of the airbag. you can however remove the entire airbag.

Would it be safe to wrap that in fabric??
How do I go about removing the airbag?
Thanks

Dunno? It's been done I'm sure. check out hemitruckclub.com & download the service manual for your year.

I took mine out almost two years ago to paint the cover. And it IS a cover, however to get it off you have to remove the whole airbag assembly. I can't remember the procedure, but it involves a bunch of small fasteners and the big main ones (about four or five), all accessed from under the dash and behind the glovebox. Once the whole thing can be pulled out (watch out, make sure you've disconnected the battery before starting ANY of this. The damn exploder thang looks like a shotgun shell...in your face!) you can straighten the tabs and pull the cover off.

Sounds easy, huh? :D
