Im going to be changing the differential fluid and have Permatex Red RTV Silicone laying around. Would I be safe using that? Or is better to get some Permatex Ultra Copper like the member did in the how to?

I though red DTV was better because it was made for higher heat temps?

Mopar makes a gray Gear Lube RTV you can get at the stealership. It's made specifically to stick even if the mating surfaces still have gear lube on them, so you don't have to be so picky about cleaning off all of the old stuff. It's what I use, although I think other brands have also come out with their own gray RTV in recent years.

Davb673, sorry man I missed that one. but will take a look.

Claw, thats what was used on a 98 Ram that I also had to switch out the gear fluid on, since it never had that service done before. The grey gasket is more thicker and I will use it next time around, but the red gasket is doing its job on mine and on mine dads 98.

I've normally use the blue w/silver sparklies for diff covers.

The red w/copper sparklies is better than the plain red.

Gotta luv them sparklies...

Whatever you use, just make sure it is made for constant contact with gear oil.
