What's that box under the dash and on the tranny hump - just to the forward/right of the 4x4 selector lever?
It's labeled "SRS EQUIPPED"

SRS is "Safety Restraint System". I don't know if that's a cover for the air bag module, or if it's just a fancy cover they placed there to announce that the truck has air bags.

My 97 2500 has that also.

I haven't taken mine off but SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System. Meaning that the airbags are supplemental to the seatbelts which are the primary safety devices.
