OK, I have searched and searched. All I have found is more questions and no straight answer, so I will just ask for one now.
What is the proper gear lube weight for the 11.5" AAM axle? The manual says 75W-90, but I read a TSB that suggests 75W-140 if "towing or operating in high temps". Well I do both, is it needed? Give me the straight answer. I know some of you use the 75W-90 and some use the 75W-140. I will be using either Mobil 1 or Amsoil depending on price and availability locally. I know the front diff is simple- 75W-90.
Now for the second question. What is the actual amount needed for EACH? I found one place (manual does not state capacity) that said basically 13 pints will cover both. I looked at Amsoil's site and it stated 4.9 Pints front and 7.6 Pints rear. I found another source that stated 76 ounces front and 122 ounces rear. If I use the same 75W-90 for both front and rear (which I'm not sure is right now), I will need 12.5 Pints which at 2 pints per quart is 6 and one quarter quarts which means I will have to buy 7 bottles at $9.00 (approx) per quart. If I need 75W-90 for the front I will have to buy 3 for it and then 4 of the 75W-140 (if I use that in the rear) at $16.00 (approx) per quart which will drive up my cost quite a bit.
SO- Please someone give me a straight answer with some backup from Dodge preferably and help confirm my quantities (especially if you have done it- how much did it take and what did YOU use).
Sorry for the long winded post, but I'm really more confused now than when I went out to buy the stuff today and came home EMPTY HANDED and LOST! :help:
