Has anyone has a propane powered Ram? Had a conversion done?
I am toying with the idea of having a propane conversion done on my 1998 and having a "dual fuel" vehicle.

Let me know what you all think.

I have a dual fuel powered dodge 5,9 it runs on regular fuel and on a mix off propane/butane.

The tank (230 litre) is mounted at back of 6.5" bed.
It`s starts on regular fuel and than it`s switching over about 10 seconds too the propane/butane mix.

The system has his own computer and is using his own fuelinjectors(no change you have a backfire).The gasmilage is the same as where you run regular fuel and defently no powerloss.

The reason ive done it is because the price for a litre fuel.
1 litre regular octane 98 cost 1,29 euro/1,72 dollar
1 litre propane/butane octane 102 cost 0,40 euro/0,53 dollar
so i am saving a lot of money.

picture 1 is the contole unit
picture 2 are the injectors
picture 3 is the fueldoor
picture 4 is the 230 litre tank
picture 5 are also injectors

Well, if mileage and power are the same as gasoline, then I don't see much reason for me to change.

I see that you get 98 octane fuel - that must be nice. The highest I can get where I live is 91 octane and it is anywhere between $2.35 and $2.95 / gallon U.S.
I run my truck on 87 octane when normal driving and 89 when towing. I get about 10-12 miles per gallon and it costs $40.00 U.S. each time I fill it up.

Propane, the last time I bought it at a truck stop was $2.25 / gallon U.S. - which was the same price as 87 octane gasoline.

I wonder if anyone makes a CNG (compressed natural gas) conversion for the the Ram pickup.

The Honda Accords that run on CNG, and have a home compressor that you hook up to your house's natural gas line so you can fill up over 4-5 hours are really interesting.

Idk but with the prices around here in R.I im begining to ponder the thought of a PIRUS lol nah not really but it costs me 55+ when the prices are in the 2.20 and its preety much near empty

There is also a handfull of gas stations that offer 93 over here.......I have to run my truck on high octane 91 or 93......becuase if tis anything less it knocks

One reason that fleets switch to propane is that is produces negligible emissions and is much easier on an engine. If you take two engines, one ran off of gasoline and the other from propane, you will notice that the propane powered one will have much less wear. In fact, in many cases propane will yield less power and poorer fuel economy.

I know Dodge sold CNG Ram Vans, IIRC during model years 98-2001 maybe up to '03. The system was only available on the 5.2L V8 engine (ie not available with 3.9L or 5.9L)...The engine was also rated about 10-15 less HP than normal gasoline powered 5.2L V8s, but was rated 5 more mpg overall. Might be worth further looking into...
