Possible engine swaps?

804 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Browntown
Hey guys, so the motor in my '97 plymouth voyager is about to die, this is the 2nd 3.0 in this van, and I was just wondering what are other possible engine swaps in this van? I dreamed about an srt-4, but alot of people thought that was very stupid, due to cost, so I was wondering, what options do I have? The way I see it as long as I get a computer to match the motor it should be possible with at least some engines. What about those turbo 6 cyl's that were in daytona's for a while? (I think that the car) Thanks for help in advance, and if worse comes to worse I'm sure the stock motor wil be just fine.

If cost is not a factor find a good 3.3L and drop it in, if cost is a factor and it will be once you start having to replace the complete wiring harness to fit the donor engine, computer and other electronics.

As for your turbo idea, you better beef up the tranny before you go running a 6 cyl turbo.

or find a good low mileage stock 3.0 and drop it in for minimum cost.

Chet.
If your goal is to just cheaply throw in a non 3.0 engine, a 3.3 would be fairly easy, you'd have to pull the trans too tho (3.3 and 3.0 = diff bellhousings).

If your goal is performance, some of those ealy 90s/late 80s turbo 2.x's make fast vans. But bare in mind your local laws (esp emission laws) can make that completely prohibitiable in some states (i.e. CA).
Thanks alot for all the comment, honeslty I kinda do want a fast van, but recently I have hos some guys tell me that is like an oxymoron, I think it is stupid to believe that when I see some of those older caravans that have a turbo 4, they are pretty fast. And I planed to swap the tranny with a better one also,, espically if it were a more powerful engine. Thanks again.
