hi,
I am currently having problem after problem with my truck. guess its time to start rebuilding things. I just started having a poping sound from what i think is the engine when i first start it. It goes away after a few minutes of running. i had one person say it was the lifters. i changed the oil and it still does it. its pretty loud and does it at random. i even tryed a bottle of valve and lifter cleaner. any suggestions??

112000. the other day my brother in law was behind me and said it smelled like oil or gas. no visible oil burning. I heard a rattle for a while. do you think my cat could be causing something?

quite possible....it's not unheard of for cats to go out on rams...especially at your mileage

popping sound..

I had similar sound and behavior. After troubleshooting, notice the water pump pulley loose. So the sound was coming from the belt and pulley. Other things to look at...belt, tensioner, pulleys, etc. Good luck.
