I have a sct tuned pcm/stroker motor from an 2006 ram 1500. I want to put this motor and pcm into a 2004 ram hemi 4x4. Anyone know if I can just swap the motor and pcm or am I looking at wiring harness issues etc. I guess if worse comes to worse I could get the 04 pcm tuned but would like to use the one I have. Thanks for any info
As I recall, the 04s and 06s didn't have all the same communications. Seems like 2006 was when canbus started. I think 2004 was a quirky year, as far as software was concerned, but I might be wrong.
But now that I think about it, you should be able to "detune" the 06 and put the tune on the 04. Might need to ask an SCT tuning type person. I'd try Moe's Performance or AIRRAM.
You won't be able to put your 06 PCM in, but you will be able to engine tune the 04 PCM. Where you may run into issues is whether you can tune your trans in the 04 or not.
05 PCM is PCI bus and all you'd have to do is move a few pins in the harness where they go into the PCM. The 06 is CAN bus and uses different communication and protocols.
Oh okay. Looks like I'll have to buy another tuner since my sct is married to the 06 pcm. I used Sean before I'll give him a call. I appreciate the info and the help!
Yea I jumped the gun on that and didn't detune thinking the 06 pcm would work in the 04. I appreciate the info and it looks like I'll be buying a diablo that can tune the 04 pcm but not sure if it will the transmission. I hate to let the stroker motor sit around and not use it even though the motor in the 04 runs fine. Maybe I can sell the 04 motor for enough to recoup the money I'm spending on tuner and tune.
