I use my parking brake everytime i park somewhere, and lately when i release it the light will stay on until i pull the lever a few more times.. well today after driving for a little bit, i got out of the truck and i could smell something burning. I then saw steam coming from the back brakes.. and upon farther inspection of touching the rim they were HOT. very hot.. almost looking like they are melting the brake pads. It makes sense, my MPG's have dropped by almost a half mile and the truck seemed sluggish today. I guess my ebrake is stuck on.. how can i release it? Both sides of the truck were hot.. and the pedal goes down for the ebrake easily and releases easily.. only it seems like its not releasing unless the actual brakes are stuck on.. i do get a pulsing sensation when im stopping.

I use the parking brake every time I park the truck, level ground or not. It's habit and a good one IMO. It's both a parking brake and an emergency brake.
I have a friend at work that made the mistake of letting his wife drive his truck recently. When she got home, she parked in the driveway which has a slight incline. She thought she put it in park but it was barely in reverse, just enough to hold the truck. She did not use the parking brake. She got out of the truck and had left the keys in the ignition. Did some things and then reached in to grab the keys. Managed to hit the shift lever enough to knock it into neutral. Truck started rolling backwards, almost running her over and ended up hitting her car with the open drivers door. Just about tore it off the hinge and damaged her car pretty good too. My buddy has been truckless for a couple weeks while the repair work is done replacing the driver side door. Hopefully his wife learned her lesson with that one. Use the parking brake, it's there for a reason!
