I have a 01' ram with the overhead console equipped with the so called compass and a thermometer. The problem I have is the compass is always reading north no matter if I change directions. Where is the sending unit or sensor for this? The temp is fine just the direction of travel is off. I know where the temp sensor is. Or is there a way to reset it?
Yeah, there is a way (i think) to recalibrate it and its outlined in the owners manual. Unfortunately, I do not remember the steps. When I lived in Australia we used to have to do this with all of the Jeeps that were exported there so that they would read correctly.
If I recall correctly, you can go to an empty parking lot, and drive in a complete circle a couple of times, and this will reset it. I've had to do this to mine on two different occasions in the last year.
This sounds like Dodge is laughing at us, let's make these a**holes drive in circles while holding two buttons hoping to reset this thing... Lol, just sounds funny to me..
No, I didn't have to hold the two buttons to reset it while driving in circles-
When you press the two buttons at the same time, it resets the screen that you are on (example, trip meter and MPG). This is totally separate from resetting the compass.
The sensor for the temperature is in the grille below the hood latch. Check to see if it is clean of bugs, dirt, and debris. That may straighten it out.
