Oil Pan (front sump vs. rear sump)

1826 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Dodgevanman
Long story short I installed a front sump 360 out of a van into a truck and swapped the pans. It is now leaking at the rear main radius. It seems the radius of the main doesn't match up to the radius of the pan.

If anyone can shed some light onto some options it would be appreciated?

Not sure if there is a correct pan available or not. If there isn't an easy plan, I plan to MAKE it work somehow......

just for fun, here is the motor shortly after paint...

THANKS!
Jason

Sounds like a 360 pan on a 318.
The rear pan seal area on a 360 is bigger diameter than the same area on a 318-340.

Yep...sounds like you may have a 318 pan on the 360. You'll need a pan from a 360 truck.
Thanks for the insight, the block is definately stamped 360. Sounds like the rear journal on the front sump van engine is the same as a 318. Guess I will track down a 318 pan for the smaller journal.

Guess that one piece rubber seal I just got from summit isn't going to help me out either.

You guys wouldn't happen to know the difference in measurement would you? Was thinking I might be able to weld in stick of metal....
Thanks,
Jason
Not offhand...why don't you get a 360 pan from somewhere like Summit Racing or Mancini?
