Today I noticed some oil sitting on top of my oil filter. With the looks of it, it has been leaking about a week or so due to the oil on the side of the engine and front axle. Has anyone ever seen this problem. The oil filter seems to be on tight so I do not think it is leaking from there. It is a 06 CTD Crew. Any help or advice would be great.

Make sure the oil filter doesn't have 2 gaskets meaning the old one was not removed (stuck to engine) when replacing the oil filter. If that's not it, remove all the oil on side of engine, start the truck and look for leak.

What brand filter? Some of them use lighter materials and have been known to split from the ultra high oil pressure on cold start up and drive. Can be as much as 80psi. I'd change it with a Purolator, Fleetguard or Mopar. Just my humble opinion.
