I just got the final diagnosis from my problems I have been havine (staying in 2nd when stopped, shutter/oscillation in the 1-2 shift at low pedal). It was a blocked ball valve (one-way) valve in the cooling line. That then over-heated the over-drive planetary gear set, and bingo! $850 later I have the Durango back :VHOT: ! The guy at the transmission shop reccomended removing the ball valve completely to prevent this from coming up again. the one that was in the vehicle was a replacement from the original, put in about 2000 miles ago. The trans was worked on 3000 miles ago by the same guy, and there was no sign of a problem, but there was a small leak in the onl colling line. When that was fixed, the ball valve was replaced, not knowing it was a problem. What a mess....get a trans temp gauge!!!!!!! :rck:

how old was your fluid? The only thing I can think of was the fluid was old and dirty causing the ball to varnish or gum up.

I assume you're referring to the check ball by the radiator?
