It may have been there all along and I just recently noticed it but at a low RPM the engine will "sputter" or "miss" for a split second, particularly at idle. Running down the road I never notice this happening.

I have run many diesel tractors as well as some larger trucks and never noticed this occurring. Is it normal in the Dodge Cummins?

You might want to fill in your signiture with info about your truck, so that people can help better.

The only time I had a sputter or miss with mine was when cold, it was accompanied by white smoke. I used some Lucas fuel additive for about three tanks and drove it hard. This cleared it up for me. No more problem.

My 03 had a rough idle when it was cold out. Once it warmed up it went away. It was a sort of miss every couple seconds. It did it for 3 years....
