Would a NP241(D)-HD bolt up to a 1500 w/o modification? Would this be a smart upgrade from the stock NP231(D)?

Thanks.

the stock 231 is pretty strong as it is. really only one thing that the 241 gives you is a PTO option.

It's not going to be a direct bolt-in. Some modification will be required. First the 241 is almost 3" longer than the 231 so driveshafts will also need to be swapped or modified accordingly. The 241 is essentially a NV231HD with six gears in the planetary set so it's a fairly more stout unit. The 241D is a heavier duty Dodge version of the 241, with a larger input shaft and larger bearings to withstand the torque of the V10 and diesel engines. I don't know enough about it to tell you if the input shaft is going to work with your transmission's existing output shaft, but I suspect they are different.
