Hello all, I am looking at doing a ground up restore/ build on my 93 d-150. It has the 5.9 magnum and an nv4500 manual transmission. I am going to rebuild the motor with the intention of getting around 500+hp if possible but the transmission i have is more meant for towing with first gear being granny gear. Since I am going for a performance setup, Is it possible to get one of the newer 8 speed automatics to bolt up to my 5.9 or would I be better off finding an automatic transmission of roughly the same age as the motor.

You could get a 46re rebuilt with 47re internals for a lot cheaper and it’d hold just about anything the magnum could build.
