(99 2500 ctd 4x4 with 161,000 miles. Have had tranny issues since 83,000 miles. When cold it doesn't want to shift into third. I runs the rpms up to 2500 or so then let off it will shift and then shifts normal. For the past few months the 1,2 shift has been sluggish(in/out/in) under light throttle but shifts fine if I take off a little bit harder than normal. I also have the lock/unlock of the TC at cruising speeds. It has been to the dealer at 83,000 and they said tranny was shot and needed rebuilt but no codes.. Needless to say, I took it to a tranny place and they found no codes either and wanted to change the filter and inspect. Pan and old fluid were very clean with no metal or clutch material. They said pressures were on the low side of normal. I have drove it with these shifting issues for almost 60,000 miles.
Then yesterday it hangs in first and will not shift into 2. Fluid is ATF3, 10,000 miles old, and looks like it was just put in. This happened after I cleaned the battery terminals for the TC lock/unlock. I truly believe it is an electrical problem. Any help would be much appreciated. TPS ($300 hit!) has been replaced and made no change.

update

I reset the computer and the tranny will shift fine if I manually shift it. As soon as I let the tranny shift on it's own it locks up in first. I can disconnect the batteries and it will shift again manually. Any clues to what will fix this?

problem solved

Here's the heads up, Made a call to DTT, did a pressure check, replaced the output speed sensor and all is good again. Hope this helps someone else.
