Brand new member here, so I hope I'm doing this post correctly and in the correct place. I'm humbled by a very frustrating experience involving (of all things) my wipers, and am hoping that I'm not alone so someone found a solution.

2004 Ram 1500, Hemi. Original owner. Had a 2001 Ram with the 318 engine before this.

Wipers have become progressively worse over the years in terms of not doing fully effective wipes, and also chattering/squealing when in use. Even with new blades. A few months ago, the dealer parts guys pointed out that my wiper arms no longer have the "key" in them, and suggested that the arms are too sloppy on the pivots, so the arms can't put enough tension on the blades against the windshield. Even though I'm the original owner, I have no idea how long its been that way. Pivots are fine, the arms are not slipping on the pivots. Wiper linkage is all connected and works good, and new wiper motor. Wiper arms and transmission are original, the only new part is the motor.

Bought new wiper arms from Autozone with the key in them. The notch in the pivot isn't positioned correctly though, so the wipers point high up on the windshield while in the home position. Can't seem to find a way to adjust the pivots, so I bought the OEM motor/transmission combo through the dealer, and that still has the index in the pivot in the wrong spot so the wipers point too high on the windshield.

I have no idea how that caould possibly be the case since it's the OEM part. Should just bolt right on and be perfectly lined up, right? Anyone else experienced this where the indexing on the pivots is permanently off? Please tell me that I'm not alone.

I have an 05 Ram 3.7 V6. I have not had that problem.. yet. But I have found and bought Mopar brand parts on RockAuto that the Dodge dealer no longer carries. I looked on the RockAuto website for 2004 Ram 5.7 wiper arms and they show one side only in stock. So out of curiosity, I looked at 2005 Ram 3.7 and they show both sides with exact same part numbers and also cheaper. ??? My experience so far has been much better using Mopar brand parts even though they are usually way more expensive. I have had great service from RockAuto.

Another thought about chattering wipers... I don't know if it makes any difference but I use and like RainX on all my windows. I love it. But, if you use it, you need to re-apply it occassionally especially on the windshield as the wipers and dirty road spray will wear it off.
I went through a learning stage with RainX. Windows need to be clean. Then apply a good wet coat and rub it in good. Let it dry a few minutes, polish it off good. Then one more important step... take a damp cloth and polish the glass one more time. This last step somehow takes away the swirl marks.
Just one more important thing to know about the windshield... if you put RainX on and don't re-apply after maybe a couple of hours of constant wiper use where you are getting road spray, it wll wear off and your visibility will be worse than before you applied it.
I used it on the windshield of a Freightliner driving long distance. Sometimes at night as long as I wasn't in a lot of traffic, I could drive in rain for hours and never use the wipers. The road would look wet but sometimes I had to look closely to even tell it was raining.
