I have a 96 caravan and am having a problem when I turn on the defroster. The blower runs fine on all other positions, but when I turn it to defrost, there is a rumbling coming from the engine compartment. When I turn it off, the rumbling continues for a few seconds and then stops. Is there something in the engine compartment that only runs when the defrost is on? It doesn't sound like an actuator motor in the dash.

Sounds like the a/c clutch is going bad, I believe the clutch engages when you turn on the defrosters.

Try it with your a/c on, it should be the same noise = a/c clutch, if it doesn't do it w/ A/C on then, hmm, (no answer yet)

I'll pass along the advice my wife gave me when the ac clutch went on the dako "Well I guess we're moving to san diego now."
