Unless you are willing to pay around 3 bills for a programmer that has the capability you need, you are better advised to have the dealership reset it.

The only reason you'd need to do it is if you've changed the diameter of your tires, is that why? Otherwise, any gear change (or anything else forward of the ring and pinion) doesn't necessitate recalibration.

But the bills for a programmer is about the cheapest you'll get away with as far as DIY. I really only know about the Superchips, and mine let me reset for my actual tire diameter (Gonna come in handy when I switch to 20's :D).

Are you impling that the speedo isn't driven off the transmission but rather off a wheel hub? That is the only way I can think of where a gear change will not alter the speedo.
