Hey guys.. I just purchased a 2004.5 2500 diesel that only has the 4 speaker cd stereo. Im sure i wont surprise anybody when I say that the stereo sucks. Im really not into subs and amps anymore because I have kids on the way and I need my back seat. My question is...who makes a nice set of speakers for this truck. Im not against spending 400-500 bucks for 4 nice good sounding speakers as long as they dont distort and sound like crap like the factory ones. Thanks

If you want to keep your stock deck your pretty much SOL on getting great sound out of high end speakers. I would say get a solid deck, some have a 10 gauge wire for direct battery hookup. 35 to 50 watts RMS, saves you from having to do a seperate amp. Then do some infinity kappa door speakers. Wouldn't be disapointed.

What he said. I tried to stay stock looking on the interior by sticking with the factory cd player and after getting the system put in it still sounded like crap. I fully recommend the kappa door speakers. I have the kappa 3-way 6x9's up front and 6.5's in the back. Both needed a little rolling of the door opening lip and the included mounting ring to be installed between the door and the speaker. The sound is simply amazing.

Well.....I went out and not only did I pick up some new speakers today....I did go with a new head unit. I picked up a pair of 6x9 JL Audios for the front and 5.25 JLs for the back doors. My head unit is a Alpine HDRadio/CD. I did do away with my Sirius Starmate on the windshield and got the Sirius box that hooked up directly to the Alpine. I paid $700 for the head unit, all the speakers, Sirius/Alpine box, and all other installation materials. I was able to install everything in about 3 hrs except for the back door speakers, they wont be here until Tuesday. I am extremley pleased so far with the sound of the 6x9s. Overall, I think I made a good choice.

Sweet. Glad to here you have some proper audio going on. I bet you didn't even have to mod the truck to make them fit. I was pissed at mine cuz I bought from crutchfield and they said they fit. Oh well I made them fit.

The stock head units are made by a couple of different manufacturers. Alpine is one of them. I kept my stock head unit and installed a set of Infinity Reference speakers from Circuit City. I'm sure it would sound way better with an external amp but overall it sounds pretty good. Waaayyy better than the stock muffled el cheapo speakers that it came with. Bass is there but a little weak but mids and highs are fantastic. If I turn the bass up in audio settings, it fades due to lack of wattage with the 66watt head unit with the high wattage speakers. Some good speakers that better match the output of the head unit would sound better with the stock head or aftermarket if you're not going to run an amp.

I found with the factory deck that it made my sub cutout in the higher volume range with a high level to rca adapter.

I had gotten that too now and then with my sub. I decided to change out my stock deck because I couldnt stand it being so low.

Yes Alpine makes some of the decks but the quality is not even close to the true aftermarket. Take my infinity door speakers HA!! Nothing impressive at all. Not even lowest of the infinity line. Wasn't positive the output of the factory deck output, I know I love my stock infinity 240 watt amp! LOL

Hello Gang, another newby here. I just purchased a 2003 QC Hemi and I have a ? about speaker sizes. I have 2 pairs of Infinity 5x7 kappas still in the box. I was going to put these in a ford explorer, but I sold it. I was wondering if I could put them in the doors. Thanks in advance , Mike

Hey badblack hemi, I do have some amps,2- 1000 watt and a 760 watt sonys.I know, not the best, but the price was right.I was just wondering if the 5x7's would fit in the front & back doors. Also, are 10" subs the best fit under the rear seats.I have 2 -12" sony subs I have access too. thanks in advance , Mike

i think that the 5x7's would fit, but you would have to have a custom bracket made to make them fit. i was told it would be real easy. as for the 12's, i dont think it really matters the size of the subs rather than how "deep" they are, if that makes any sense to you. you could mount any diameter sub under your seat, facing up, as long as the depth of the sub and the box it is mounted in is less than the space you have under your seat, sorry if this all sounds like a lot of jibberish, im not the best audio specialist, but i do have some stuff for sale. lol, i need money for that torque converter!!!! or i would have the brackets made for them to fit into my truck.
