Looking at buying a new Hemi 2500 for towing. With the "Multi-Speed Overdrive Automatic Transmission", will I have ability to lock-out the 5th gear and just use 4th gear for towing? Any idea what the ratio is?

Thanks!

Don't know about the 2500, but with my '06 1500 it has two different towing modes. I can lock out just 5th gear in "tow/haul" mode, and can also lock out both overdrives (4th and 5th) in "overdrive off" mode.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just did a test drive and confirmed what you said about locking out 5th gear. This is a lot better then the Ford SD transmissions which I also test drove and confirmed that you cannot lock out 5th gear.

The 2 overdrive gears are really a good idea for towing when you can control them like this. Changing from 5th to 4th gear is like changing from 3.73 to 4.30 gears with the push of a button.

I will be towing a 7000 lb RV on highways and in the mountains.

If anybody knows, it would also be interesting to know which gears allow the torque converter to lock. I would guess 3rd, 4th and 5th?

Thanks for your help!
