I can't help but notice from the hp/tq curves that the 318 looks like a peaky engine. Its not a surprise to me, I've had two, but the graph really confirmed it for me.

Does a cam exist (or 1.5 ratio rockers) that would limit lift, increasing low rpm tq, and maybe flatten the tq curve a little? With a 2.54:1 first gear, even 3.92's in the back does not provide the pulling power that one would like out of a v8. (The chevy guys have 3.xx:1 and 3.73's in the back). I know I'll loose a little hp off the top, but I'm not looking to win any drag races while pullin my boat :)

Anybody try anything like this? How were your results?

Edit: As cool as a 381 would be...I meant 318 ;)
