Mopar was the center of attention at the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, which took place last week at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The brand revealed a number of new products and initiatives for 2008 at a packed press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the large Mopar display area.
Mopar's Rob Richard and SpeedFreaks co-host Kenny Sargent emceed the event and introduced the concept of "HEMI Evolution." The "HEMI Evolution" program will see the brand evolve the HEMI engine by introducing new parts and technologies for 1960 HEMI engines such as the 426 and 472, as well as the modern 5.7 and 6.1L HEMIs.
With 2008 marking the 40th anniversary of 1968 factory Package cars such as the Dodge Dart and Barracuda, Mopar also announced a new factory-direct Dodge Challenger Package car program. A limited number of these race-only Package cars will be available in 2008 through Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep® dealers. Mopar will work directly with the NHRA and the Dodge Challenger assembly plant to give the next generation of drag racers exactly what they need to be competitive at the track.
Mopar's seven "Top Eliminator" winners were honored at the press conference as well. Mopar developed the "Top Eliminator" program to recognize the most passionate and skilled Mopar enthusiasts and their modified or restored vehicles. Seven winners were chosen throughout 2007 and were flown to Vegas to attend the SEMA Show. The winner's cars were also displayed in the "Mopar Alley" at SEMA, which has been become a popular fixture at the annual event.
Mopar also trumpeted a new addition to its established "Muscle," "Street," and "Speed" portfolios with a new "Trail" initiative. Mopar will offer a full-line of performance products designed specifically for Dodge and Jeep vehicles, and will put an exclamation point on the "Trail" program with a new Mopar-sponsored off-road team. The Mopar Dodge Ram Trophy truck will barrel into competition right away at the SCORE International Baja 1000, set for Nov. 10. Collins Motorsports' Larry Ragland, Chuck Hovey and Brian Collins will share driving duties in Mopar's new off-road gem.
