headed out for work and found a gallon or so of coolant under the truck, looked like it was leaking from upper radiator hose but turned out to be the freeze plug right in front of the water pump pulley. had the shop pressure test it and the thing trickled out like a faucet. 80 bucks or so for the part and a few hours of my time and the trucks all good now. sucks though cuz thats the money i was gona use to get the odds and ends for the header install :VHOT:

what the heck causes a freeze plug to start leaking??

It is the weep hole for the water pump. When it leaks out of there it is junk.

im not sure it was the weep hole, or maybe it was and it was running down and pooling on the freeze plug lip,

should that hole have a cap on it? the new pump had a small plastic cap coverin the hole and the old one didnt. i left it in.

Yes. It probably got knocked out from the coolant
