Well I have owned gas long enogh. I am looking to get a ram 5.9 turbo. My question is what year/model should I look at im going to get used. And what should i look for on the truck as far as parts the go the most. Any little info would be nice since I have never owned a diesel.

Parts that go most are the stock automatics or stock clutches. It depends what you want to do. Do you just want a daily driver? Or are you looking for a sled puller or race truck?

If you plan on sled pulling, I'd look for a manual with the NV5600. If you want to race it, I'd look into an 04.5+ with the 48RE automatic (which if you upgrade will be near bullet proof). The 04.5+ 5.9's also respond better to tuning.

If you want to go all out with power, look for a 12V or 24V VP44 (cheap and you can swap a P-Pump on it).

Im also looking to get into an 04-06 5.9L and have been leaning toward the auto. It will be my daily driver along with hauling boats and gear on the weekends. Im curious as to which mods you are referring to to make the auto near bulletproof?

You can buy a built auto ready to be installed, around $5,000. Sometimes more depending on the company building it. Check out Goerend, ATS, DTT, NADP, BD, Garmon, etc.

They include upgraded input (and intermediate and output if you choose), billet flexplate, valvebody, clutch packs, etc.
