I just found out that my coolant was low and the car was running slightly hotter than normal. Could that cause my '08 avenger to go into limp mode?

slj68,

I'm sorry to hear about your concern. Were there any fault codes set?

Just went through a limp most situation, posting in case it helps:

I pulled p0700 and p0750 codes.
Car would go in and out of limp mode.
I had the car in several shops and they could not solve.

I replaced the Shift Control Solenoid (cost $200) . . did not solve issue.
I replaced the PCM (cost $300, refurb bought online) . . . did not solve.
I replaced the wire for the T20 circuit (cost $1). . . SOLVED issue.

I tested the T20 circuit (see diagram below), but the resistance and voltage showed to be withing tolerance. For me the T20 circuit was a green wire with a white stripe. The wire was intermittently faulty.
I had some copper wire of the same gauge. I cut a length to match the wiring harness. I spliced it in from the PCM plug all the way to the Shift Control Solenoid. I soldered in the ends and shrink Wrapped them. I fit the wire into the harness and rewrapped with heat-resistant tape.

Car runs perfectly now.

Hope this saves somebody some time... and money

Obviously, had i to do it all over again, i would have replaced the T20 wire sooner.
