I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. When taking off from a stop, can you shift an automatic into neutral, rev it up to 4500rpm, then drop it into drive to get going quickly? I know you can do it in a manual transmission, but I don't really want to experiment with my own car if it will wreck the tranny.

i did that in my old cutlass and it worked fine until the engine gave out but the trans never had any problems

THe "old cutlass" was probably not as computer controlled as the Intrepid. The answer is NO. Attempting this can damage the clutches in the trans. and put undue stress on trans geartrain. Second, intrepids won't rev over 3200 rpm in neutral or park to protect the engine.

i am reving in 3500 rpms in n and p, but you will reck your tranny if you do any neutral drops... you have better grip and reaction if you hold the break down and rev to aout 2000k and let go of the break.. Ive been doing this at the tracks and getting anywhere between .400-.500 reaction time...
