Well, I am really at a stumbling point, trying to decide what direction to head in next. I have been reading thread after thread regarding camshafts, piggyback units, strokers, and even 6.1 swaps. This has really left me bouncing off the walls, trying to determine the best solution for my rig. I would really appreciate some input from people who may have dabbled in the higher HP ranges with the Hemi's running N/A. So let me state what my objectives are, and current mods along with parts awaiting install, then my thoughts on possible directions.

My objective would be to get as close to 400/RWTQ & 400/RWHP as possible, and vastly improve the low end torque of this heavy 2004 quad cab with the 3.92 Limited Slip. Of course the truck still needs to be a daily driver, so I really do not want to step up the rear gears. The 3.92 should be a fairly stout gear, and I am really disappointed in how this truck pulls from a dead stop until we get high enough in the rpm range.

I have been running strictly Mopar Performance, although I am tired of waiting for the damn 5.7 cam and the PCM which may never get released. Installed, the CAI, Long Tubes, Hi-Flow Cat's, & Cat-Back. I have waiting to be installed a pair of Mopar CNC Heads. I do not have a Superchips, or any other programmer yet. Current mods left to do, 180 deg T-Stat, and Electric Fan setup.

Options I am considering:
The stoutest camshaft I can still drive on everyday, think the 268 might fit the bill, but what about the 273? I know these require some sort of piggy back, be it the ARC-1 or the SMT-6. I don't mind either way, just want to pick the best way.

Transmission Transgo kit? Haven't been able to find good detail information on this and what to expect. Not to mention a torque converter as well, which one would be better?

I also found a brand new 6.1L short block, could this be an easy change over and would it really be a benefit or a tuning nightmare?

Fuel systems, do I need to upgrade anything?

I know I am asking allot here, but I would really appreciate your input, I find it is much wiser to learn from the ones who have learned from their mistakes, than to jump in way over your head. I would really love to see this quad cab tote a tire for a spell.

Many thanks ahead of time.

I will look forward to your 210 install, and your feedback from it. However I am not worried about the warranty, just wanted to stick with mother Mopar. They are not willing enough to go as far with these trucks as I want to go, so now I am checking outside alternatives.

...it's only a matter of time before someone chimes in...go with 4.56 gears too...I liked my 3.92's but the 4.56's made a big difference....

I would definitely get a 4.56 AND Superchips without question. The Transgo shift kit works awesome for making your shifts quick basically instantaneous, the Superchips makes them firm, great combo. The 180 t-stat and Viper fan are nice additions, but I'd pass on the Mopar heads...what are they like $3000 for a pair? You should be able to pick up a set of CNC Hemi heads for $1500ish with sending in your old heads that are just as good as the Mopar heads. I'd skip the 6.1 cam and jump right up to the 210/260 or maybe the 218/268 if you don't mind messing with a piggyback tuner and wideband. The torque converter would also be a great performance addition, either Edge or APS would be far better then stock. Skaarew and I are both installing the 268 cam this month along with the ARC-1(tuner), wideband O2, and Manley valvetrain package, so keep an eye out for a post about it in 3-5 weeks. It would be sooner but we found out today that some of the Manley stuff is on backorder. I also planned on an APS converter after the cam but I may be doing this first while I wait for the Manley stuff, will post about that too.

Yeah, what he said!!

Sawcut, do you have the Transgo resistor as well as Superchips? If so, watch out, I have read that those two combined will put your line pressure over 200psi, which it can not support.

No I didn't install it, both Wayne at APS and the instructions said not to. I'm pretty happy with the firmness Superchips gives you. So...any news yet on the Bullydog?

This is a post from STU on another forum:

"To date we put 368 to the wheels with ported 6.1 heads, intak and a 6.1 cam. I am pretty sure with what we have and have learned now we could get at least 400 with heads, 6.1 intake and a cam with a smt6 to tune a bit less with no tuning we would just have to go smaller on the cam."

It look as thou it is possible with the following:

1. P&P Heads
2. Cam
3. Headers
4. CAI
5. Tune(SMT-6, ARC-1 or B&G)

Any more power would require a built stroker which STU can also do. As far as fuel another member acctorch put down 368rwhp also with heads etc. and I beleive he was at 100% duty cycle so you may have to get bigger injectors.

Some good input, I really appreciate the time those took to reply.

I ordered the following.
APS 2600 stall converter
Yukon 4.56 gears
Superchips 3815

I am thinking now about the 210 camshaft and 100 shot direct port nitrous.

What about the 6.1L short block, would our computer system have problems if I changed the lower end?

If you go to the dragstrip much and use nitrous you may want to forget about the 4.56 gears. Guys that have tried both ran out of gear before they got to the finish, and if I remember at least one shifted into overdrive and blew his trans.
