I've been reading a lot of the threads about the sludge problem. I live near pensacola FL and my 03 durango has just over 30000 miles on it. I looked under the cap and didn't see any froth, I wiped the bottom of the cap and it was a yellowish color. I got worried b/c I bought the D used. I am going to take it to the dealer and have them check the oil pan and do a change. I change my oil every 3k or less but I don't know what the previous owner did. What is the best thing for me to do in order to prevent the sludge from happening?

It would help to let us know what engine. If you read posts, there is nothing to really worry about. If you change the oil regularly, there is nothing to worry about. Sludge formation is not a normal occurance with the proper maintenance.
