I decided yesterday to take a stab at painting my headlights. Putting them in the oven and prying them apart wasn't to bad although I did destroy a couple of the plastic tabs. The hardest part for me was removing the reflector. Anyway I started painting today and this is what i've got so far. I have a question for those that have done this, when reinstalling do you use the same glue that is already there or do you clean it off and put new glue around the whole thing?

No. I wouldnt re-use the same "glue". Go to the auto parts store and get some black silicone gasket maker. When I did mine, I tried to remove as much of the old gasket as I could before I applied a new coat. A piece of advice, before you put the new gasket stuff on, put the pieces back in the oven to reheat the existing glue. It will give you a much better seal than if you just added new gasket maker and closed it up. Lookin good man, keep it up.

I know you can paint the rims around the lights, but I didn't think you were supposed to paint inside the chrome cutouts for the lights... I thought it made them brighter?

The reflector isnt painted, just the surround. I highly doubt he'll notice a difference, especially with silver paint.

Good cause I like it the way 4xfreak painted the whole housing rather than just the outline.
Looks good 4xfreak!

I kept the chrome tunnel on mine, only because I was afeared of losing headlight brightness. But it's a PITA to mask all of that off (not to mention that no matter how hard I tried, it still pulled a little of the chrome off).

I painted the entire housing because thats what fellow member EZ4U2CHere did and I liked the way it looked as opposed to just the outline. Plus the black ones people are buying off ebay are painted just like this and I haven't heard any complaints about light output from the members that have them. I have the lights all back together now and they are drying. I'll try to post pics of the finished products later today. I don't think anyone has done them on a silver truck yet.

How do you tint the outside lense?
If you are talking about tinting the outside clear lense black i've seen people use nightshade but I wouldn't go to dark or you won't be able to see.
