I have noticed for the past couple of weeks that my 02 Ram Quad when stopped the RPM race up 5 points than back down, this continues until I take off.

I was at a traffic light this morning and I decided to turn off the A/C and sure enough the problem stopped no more racing RPM Fast to Slow idle, but as soon as I put A/C back on it started the racing RPMs again.

Anyone can help explain what maybe causing this?

Your help is appreciated.

The only thing I have done different in the past couple of months is go from mid level fuel to Regular unleaded.

Thanks in advance

Your engine has to work a little harder while running your ac compressor. So your rpms will raise slightly at idle.

Thanks rumblet, so you don't think it is a problem with the A/C?

Thanks

Thanks rumblet. Your thought is that it is not a problem with my A/C, correct?

Nope. Your truck is supposed to do that.

Hey, at least you're paying attention to your truck.

No problems with the AC as long as it's not blowing hot air! As Mad Titan said, your paying good attention to your truck.

it'll go up for a few seconds and back down for a few seconds. NORMAL

if it's consistantly moving up a down every second then that's a different story
