How to add a second battery?

1514 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  bullet32169
I know that I need to get a diesel battery tray. Do I need to move the airbag sensor or air box intake hose to mount the tray? Can someone with experience explain the mounting process for the second battery tray? I know that I'll need an isolator, etc. Thanks for the help.

no it should bolt in as the holes are already there. it sits the same as your stocker so refrence that and picture it mirrored
Thanks. That was very helpful. Do you have a suggestion on how to re-mount the airbag sensor or does it just set under the battery? It is raining at the moment so I did not get a chance to check the vertical location of the battery. But the horizontal plane fits perfectly as you stated.
the air bag sensor should be in the same location as the drivers side. it wouldnt make sense for them do mount anything any different on your truck then the diesel because they use the same fenders.
Thanks for being so helpful. It is really appreciated.
I looked a wrecked diesel today at the boneyard. The passenger side battery tray was crushed so no sale. But I could not find the airbag sensor under the battery tray the way it is on the driver's side. Both airbags were deployed so I know it has to be there somewhere. At any rate my last questions has to do with the proper placement of the airbag sensor after I mount the passenger side battery tray. Has anyone seen or done this mod that can tell me for sure how to handle the sensor so the airbag delpoys if it is ever needed?
Bah, Airbags smairbags. I remeber in my '95 that there was somthing under one of the battery trays (had to take the trays out, and cut then ends off, so they'd fit group 31 batteries) I am about to go to a RedTop in my '99. I'm honestly thinking of puttin 2 in the stock location. But I have no need (yet)
This is what I need to move. What is it?

I believe it is for EVAP. All I did was unbolt it from the fender, bent the brake 90' and relocated it on the wheel well by drilling a hole through the wheel well and fastening it with a 1/4' bolt, nut and a few washers.
I have that on my ram but it is at the motor on the backside by the fire wall on the drivers side.
After I posted I found out that it is an Evap item and that it can be moved anywhere so now I can porceed with adding my second battery. Thanks for the help and the replies.
No problem man I am thinking about do the same thing. I need to batterys on my 1996 ram.
