Both headlamps went out in the D at the same time a few weeks ago. The problem actually started about a year ago, when sometimes the headlamps wouldn't work, but then if the high beams were switched on then off, they would work. Well, now the only thing that works is the high beams (no low beams).

I am aware of the issues with both the headlamp switch and the multi-function switch, so I figured it was one of the two. I replaced both, and they still didn't work. So I replaced the obvious (bulbs), and still nothing. I checked both underhood mini fuses (L and R), and both are fine. Does anyone have anything else I can check?

TIA

To which relay are you referring? I looked in the UH fuse box and didn't see any relay that I thought would be for the headlamps. The only thing I saw were the two mini fuses. Thanks for the replies, guys.

Can someone verify whether there is a relay in the under hood fuse panel? The FSM shows one, but for some reason, when I was looking at it yesterday, I did not see one. I am at work, and the D is at home, so if one does exist, I need the number off of it to pick it up from the dealer on the way home. Any help is appreciated.

Ok, the relay that the FSM was calling the headlamp relay was labeled VTA/TKE on the fuse panel. Anyway, I swapped this relay and the fuel pump relay, and no change. Unless anyone else has any other ideas, it looks like I will need to start tracking down a loose ground, frayed wire, or something else... :(

Small update: No pinched/broken wires in the column. Also, it appears as though the 2000 D's are tied into the CTM. With the headlamp switch on, there's a violet/white wire that goes from the multifunction switch to the headlamps that should have power. It doesn't, so that means the circuit is open somewhere. My guess is that the CTM isn't charging the headlamp relay, causing the open circuit.

So unfortunately, this is the stopping point for me. Looks like I'll need to take it in to the dealer for them to run a diagnosis on the CTM, and likely replace it. $$$$

Well, according to the FSM, there are two CTMs: standard and high-line. If equipped with the high-line, then a DRB scan tool is needed to program it. I'm not sure which I have. The standard only has one plug, while the high-line has two. If it has two, off to the dealer I go...

Unfortunately, I do not know any local mechanics with the DRB scan tool. I do know a guy in the service dept. at a Chrysler-Jeep dealer, so I'm probably going to talk to him to see what he can do for me.

Ok, I'm glad I did further investigation after having the CTM replaced. A little over a year ago, I was taking the battery out of the D, and it slipped out of my hand. It fell on its side and spilled acid all over the engine bay. I thought I had cleaned it all out, but apparently there was a drop on the wire harness up by the fuse box. Turns out it took a year to eat through the insulation of this one VT/WT wire that controls the low beams.

Thanks for the input and suggestions.

Yeah, I did use baking soda right after I spilled it, then rinsed everything out. I just didn't realize the one drip ended up at the top of the engine bay. It looks like that's all I missed (hopefully!).
