Mopar-powered Don Schumacher Racing Dodge Charger R/T NHRA Funny Car drivers Matt Hagan and Jack Beckman advanced to the semifinals at the NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., on Sunday, June 13.
Driving the DieHard Dodge Charger R/T and aiming for a repeat of last week’s victory in Joliet, Ill., Hagan advanced past Tony Pedregon with a 4.226-second elapsed time at 297.94 mph and Jeff Arend with a 4.194/296.37, but was halted by Bob Tasca III in the semifinal round, losing by a mere 17 inches. Beckman steered his Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T past his Don Schumacher Racing teammate Ron Capps in the opening round with a 4.232/292.08, then dismissed Jim Head with a 4.178/295.92 before losing to Del Worsham in the semifinals.
"The DieHard Dodge team had a great day," said Hagan. "I'm proud of (crew chiefs) Tommy DeLago and John Medlen. Those guys are really putting a great race car underneath me."
Persistent rain showers forced NHRA officials to delay the final rounds of the NHRA SuperNationals until Monday at 10 a.m. Next up is the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tenn., June 18–20.
