I've had a couple of times recently where my gas gauge sits on the peg when I start the truck and I get a low fuel warning even though I have ample fuel. If I do the cluster check (hold in the odo reset and turn the key on) it checks out ok and will then work properly. Any ideas of what could be up with it?

The float in the tank could be bad.

This happened to my mom's 03 Dakota. We had gas in a can that we had purchased as a hurricane supply and we decided to use that gas up so she tipped it up into her truck. It turns out the can had rust in the bottom and it went into her truck and clogged her fuel lines. She took it down to the dealer and I think they flushed them.
