Funky Exhaust

I did a cold start on my 2004 Ram and some strong smelling light blue smoke emitted from my tail pipe for a few seconds but cleared up. I know typically when you see blue smoke that means oil is burning somewhere and it usually doesn't clear up on it's own unless you do some serious work to the engine itself. I have not had any issues with the oil what so ever. I did have a small coolant leak. I adjusted the large hose right of the radiator leading into the block yesterday. I just made sure my clamps were good and the hose was secure. Some fluid did leak, spilling over some areas. Would this have something to do with the funky exhaust?

blue smoke on startup is almost always valve stem seals. Oil leaks past the seals after sitting for a period of time then gets burned off when the engine starts. Personally, I wouldn't worry much about it until it starts smoking after extended idling or on takeoff.

Do you have the Hemi tick? If you do, excessive valve guide clearance can cause the seals to wear out a bit faster...

yeah. valve guide seals. dad had a 92 GMC truck that started doing this same thing at only 20,000 miles. Dealer and GMC both said it wasn't bad enough for a warranty repair.

Only did it after sitting over night or maybe a really long day at work.

Sounds like maybe unburned gas maybe contaminating your oil on a high level, ethanol likes to eat seals.......Ignition problems??
