Front left brake stuck

2002 Club Cab 4.7 5 speed manual. Front disc, rear anti-lock drums.

I just got new rotors and drums. The front left was warped and one of my drums was warped. The front left still has a problem, it gets stuck on and heats up a lot more than the others. When we put the rotors on, the caliper seemed fine and the piston pushed in easily. It heats up when I drive on the highway, thats when the brake seems to get stuck and heats up the rotor. Is it a brake line or caliper? Has anyone esle had this problem and solved it?

When the brakes are cool/cold does the truck pull to the left (maybe slightly) when you brake. If so, the problem may be that the right brake is not working properly. ...so the left caliper/rotor is doing all of the work. ...and then over-heating. Just a thought. They always say when one brake seems to be doing too much work, check the one on the opposite side for a problem.

If that's the case, start by re-bleeding the right brake. How did that caliper push in?

Good luck!

When they are cold, they work perfectly and the truck doesnt pull any direction. When the lf gets jammed, it pulls left until I brake and it pulls a little right. Thats becuase I am steering right to counter the jammed brake.

I am taking it somewhere tomorrow to get it fixed.

The LF caliper is the source of your problem. IF you are heating it up as you say-then the piston is getting hung up and not retracting in the bore. This can be caused by a number of things. You did say that it pressed in easily, so I will assume for now that it is not a problem with the internal seal (but could be). If you have a lot of mileage on the DAK, it can be any number of possibilities including the slide bolts for the caliper. Replace them (cheap) and see if that solves your problem. Be sure to use the correct lubricant (ask the store or dealer) when you buy them. I agree that a full bleed is a good idea. In fact, you might want to flush the front lines too. Water condenses in brake fluid over time.
Hope these ideas help.

i had tha same issue man..

it would lock up only on tha drivers side... wouldnt hap[pen all tha time.. it would heat up soo much u could tha wheel heating up.. u could seriously pour water onto tha rim & watch tha steam rise up.. it was insane...

tha 1st tiem it happened i was @ Sears... so i pulled my wheel off in tha parking lot, checked it & bleed tha caliper line to see if there was correct pressure, put everything back 2gether after a friend(mechanic) told me it was tha caliper.. i brought it to sears .. since i was right there.. & they siad it was missing some bracket & they replaced in for like $60... -- 3 days later tha pulling happened again... my friend replaced tha caliper... & i havent had a prob since

i just Replaced tha caliper on tha drivers side... Everythign works fine...

Thanks for your replies.
Gusto sounds exactly like my problem. I think the pressure keeps building and wont get released. Let it sit for a while and it fixes itself. I cant do all that work myself so I will have to take it to midas or something.

i replaced the caliper only after 3 weeks of the same problem to find out the new caliper was DEFECTIVE! I put another caliper on and it works like a charm. What a pain, i thought it was a master cylinder problem after i changed it the first time and it still didnt work.

Midas put some loaded calipers on for me and the problem is gone! Rides like a brand new truck. Plus there is no more horrible rattles when I hit a bump. Midas said there was some clips missing from my inside pads that caused the noise.

The bore inside the caliper has gotten gunky/gummy and maybe scored up a bit. If you are adventurous, you could disassemble the caliper and clean/hone the bore out slightly, then re-assemble. Should be much cheaper than replacing completely.

Mine would get hot and smoke, had to throw water on it and it would really sizzle. It was the right side and I replaced the caliper. The dealer wanted to put on pads and rotors....all is fine now and I still havent had to do anything to the pads or rotors...02 quad 4x4...Barry

dont throw water on your brakes you will warp them and risk cracking them with the cheapies. Let them cool on their own. Spitting however in frustration is acceptable.
