Chrysler Group shows strong in One Lap of America 2005
In the eight days of One Lap of America 2005 that ended Saturday where it started, in South Bend, Ind., Chrysler Group vehicles stayed the course and brought home some prizes for their drivers. The 2005 tour was officially 3,434 miles of public roads across 14 states. The company-sponsored SRT team won the luxury class with car no. 11, a slightly-modified Chrysler 300C SRT8, driven by two SRT employees: David Zelkowski, Power Train Performance Engineer, and Erich Heuschele, Vehicle Dynamics Specialist. The 300C SRT8 also took sixth place overall. "There are some great stats," Heuschele said. "We beat nine of 10 Porsches, seven of nine Corvettes, all eight BMW M cars, both Acura NSX-R supercharged racecars, both Superperformance Cobra Daytona Coupes, all five WRX STis/Mitsubishi Evolutions and the Lotus Elise. That's a testament to the greatness of every SRT8. The car made it easy." Heuschele and Zelkowski both expressed their appreciation to all the different departments within the Chrysler Group who worked with them to put the SRT8 together in five weeks. But wait, there's more. Second place overall was taken by a Hennessey 650 Dodge Viper; fourth place overall by a Dodge Ram 1500 tube-frame racecar, that also won the SUV class; and car no. 63, Dan Seeley's Dodge SRT4 with Mopar® Stage 3 engine and suspension kits took eighth place overall and won the mid-priced class.
