My son-in-law built a 4-door 83 or so Dodge pickup that runs great except that the engine will intermittently(no pattern) cut out and might start right back up or it may take 20 minutes or a whole day. He is a really good mechanic and works on all kinds of engines, fabricates, builds, rebuilds, etc on any kind of vehicle. This is a V-8. He has replaced the computer. This is the only vehicle that truly has stumped him. He has checked all the obvious connections and such. Sometimes removing the battery cable for a few minutes and reattaching it will allow it start. Sometimes not. It will turn over but not fire. Tonight it took about ½ hour to get it started. I don't know the engine family or size and don't think it's original to the truck. My daughter drives this beast and I'm worried it will cut out when she's in heavy traffic or far from home.

I will try to find out what size engine it is. Is anybody familiar with this sort of problem and where to start looking? Thanks.
