I was gonna post a thread showing off my new tires today, but some little boy driving his mommies Prius stole my thunder. Had a set of Goodyear Silent Armor in 265/70/17 (32" tall) installed yesterday.

We were sitting at a complete stop minding our own business and suddenly the whole world went nuts. And then the little ******* hit us again.

Yep, he nailed me twice.

Everybody is fine. We spent 4 hours in the ER getting all the kiddos checked out and being pissed

When I got out of the D, I was expecting a real mess. Especially when I saw his car. But as you can see by the pics, the D is a freakin' tank. :rck:

Strange to think that such a low speed impact will total out a car like that...and leave the D virtually unhurt. I need a new bumper cover, and the dent on the hatch repaired...hopefully the frame horns didn't get bent.

Here are the pics.

oh yeah, here are some better pics of the tires. I got the Goodyear Silent Armor in a 265/70/17 for $865. I'm going to do about 1.5" worth of front cranking and get an alignment....just for looks though. They don't rub at all

They are an awesome tire. Much much better than those POS Wrangler SR/A tires that are OEM. I've been thinking I needed shocks for the last few months...turns out it was just the tires.

I'll try to get better pics tomarrow. The sun was going down and the D is absolutely filthy. I guess if you look at it positively, the D will finally get a Wash n' Wax

Demand a new hitch unless every weld & bolt is Xrayed you will never know if its safe.
Been there twice (different vehicle)first time a autobody expert schooled the adjuster when they didnt want to pay for my hitch. After being denied a new one he wrote a disclaimer that went like this " hitch needs to be fully removed and all welds either xrayed or magnifluxed, Insurnace Co & Adjuster Mr. Smith claim unnessasy. I recommend never towing due possiblity of loss of life in the event of a hitch failure"

They paid for a new one including the ball mount and entire trailer wiring harness.

They also paid for rental the minute after the accident since it tore off the 7 pin plug and I had 7 live hot wires. It blew the fuse for the brakes and while the police said the car was drivalbe it had to be towed. They didnt want to pay for that either. "They did" so if you have one broke wire on the trailer plug dont drive it, demand a rental immeadiatly. Any blown fuess? Have backup lights, parking, both tunrs, brakes, ????? check it now..

Hell the taller tires may have saved the rear end that extra 2" of lift allowed the battery power car to slip under. Stock itres would have been a more direct hit.

" Taller Tires Saves Durnago"

Kidding aside durnagos can be fixed, Glad everybody is fine thats first and foremost"[/B][/B]

Sorry to hear about it!! At least everyone made it out ok, except the Prius. That Prius is funny, that is now scrape metel. I hit a Camery then they hit a Dakota. The Camery was folded up!! It was on fire almost!! The D and the Dakota had very little damage. Oh yeah, the frame horns are impact absorbing and meant to be replaced.

Glad you and the family are fine. D holds up again...
Looks like you need a new hitch cap too....

I was in the drivethru the other day and some idjit drove into my hitch , not hard enough to do anything but allow me to feel the bump.

I looked at it right away and the guy did not even look me in the eye.

No damage to me but he has a nice dent and paint scratches on his bumper. LOL $0 for me, $250 for him.
That is one expensive coffee. :D

First and foremost, im glad you and the family are safe and sound!! sorry about the accident. but hey, it looks like nothing really happened to the D! Sucks for the prius guy though... how the hell did he manage to hit you twice?? Only way i can picture it happening is him bouncing off while still on the gas and then smacking right into you again?

thanks for repairs suggestion. all of my lights work just fine. my 7 pin is bent, but still intact.

I didn't realize the hitch was the bumper. I just assumed the setup was like any other truck....strange to see foam in a bumper :(. So yeah, I'll add that whole assembly to my list of parts that will be replaced.

gonna go over her with a fine tooth comb today. sun was going down last night and we were sitting on a 4 lane freeway.

yep...I've been preaching it to my wife for years because she likes those "sporty little cars"...and I've always told her no.

my wife and I can't figure it out either. he hit us hard the first time....you could say he rocked our world :SPIN:. I didn't get pics of it, but there were 4 skid marks on the pavement from my tires sliding about 1 ft

would have thought the energy would have been gone...only thing I can think of is like you are talking about and he must've still been on the gas and the motor hadn't siezed up yet for the 2nd hit

I wonder if the kid forgot which pedal operated the brakes, it would kinda make sense, I did that when I was 10 with a go cart, I rear ended my dad and hit him again cus I was still on the gas!!! Everyone laughed,

But what happened to you isn't funny at all, I'm just glad everyone is ok.

good to hear ur family is safe.

If the tree hugging greenies get their way, we will all be driving those little tin cans. My insurance went up $300 a year when i bought my D. 1 of the reasons they said was because the D is bigger and heavier and causes more damage. i said, not to the people inside the D. they didnt find that very amusing. they r

My insurance went down when I switch to the D.. what does that say? I was driving the Chrysler Land Yaght..

But yeah good to hear everybody is Ok... Hitches wonderful things.. but ya if you tow anything I'd demand a new one...

One guy hit my D, I was across the street in a shop, saw a guy trying to park behind me, he had plenty or room, and I saw my D go up, I actually said "He hit me" so I run out there and he looks at me funny, I said to him this time "You hit my truck" he looks "Oh I just tapped your ball, the plastic on the front of my truck isn't even damaged." I didn't say it, but I shoulda... "THAT'S NOT THE &&*^*&^&* POINT!"

On a side note I will never drive a car again, only if I really really really have no choice or it's short term type thing (like I use the wife's neon once in a while) I have 2 reasons 1. I just don't fit in them well and 2. because I don't fit in them well and they are low to the ground my buggered back doesn't like them.. I started to have a problem with the Fifth Ave... but damn try driving a D with Leather seats for 3 mo, then hop in a Fifth Ave with the Pillow Top leather seats it's like riding down the road in a lazy boy.. but I'm getting off topic...

Let us know how the repairs go. And while everybody seems fine now some injury symptoms can creap up after a couple days. (BTDT) So just keep an eye on the younglings

Car Seats

TYLUS,

I just read you had car seats?? unless things have changed if you call the carseat co they will next day air you new ones N/C and pay for shipping back. They will inspect the old one for their own purposes. You may need to send a copy of the accident report.

My ex and daughter were hit by a DUI driver years ago and thats how I found out it. I work for a local PD and can double check with the depts car seat specialist tomorrow. We install and teach people the proper way of car seat instaltion and use. Most Depts do.
