Ive been pondering the idea of throwing together a home brew talegator. Since I have the Hoppy Easy Lift Tailgate Torsion Bar installed. And it removed 80% of the tailgates weight. I dont see the purpose in spending the $299 (plus shipping from JEGs), for a heavy duty kit. I can buy a standard duty actuator. A couple brackets, and install it myself.

But Im not sure how much reach I need in an actuator, and which actuators are good for the job.

Most likely I'll be rigging it up to my Viper 791xv alarm. So I can hit the remote to open the gate.

Any ideas on how to measure for length?
