I was wondering if anybody knew how hot a rear diff should feel after about 40 minutes of highway use. I just had new gears and a locker installed and when I'm coasting I hear a kind of wining noise. I thought at first it may have been my tourque converter but it really sounds like its coming from the rear of the vehicle, plus the tranny fluid is right where it's supposed to be. So when I got home I felt the diff cover and it was hot as hell, I couldnt even keep my hand on it, is this normal or is something potentially wrong. I'll check the fluid tomorrow to see if it's at the right level. Also could this noise be because of the new gear ratio or the locker?

Mine's just warm to the touch, if it's that hot maybe the bearing preloads are set too tight, or the gear mesh is tight.
