Its done this twice now, almost acts like its getting flooded idk, happens when I come to a slow stop such as comming to a stop sign or turning in to a parking stall. you think maybe its the injectors? I've been shifting it in to neutral when i come to a stop so I can keep the RPM's up around 1k

Any ideas?? I would appreciate it

Doubt it would be the O2 sensor... the truck would still run. Could be the coil or other ignition parts, but it would have a really tough time starting.

My initial thought was the idle air controller, could just need cleaning or may have failed and need replacement. I would start by removing the throttle body and giving it a good cleaning.

Sounds like an ignition (coil possibly) issue or wiring issue. I have heard of similar problems happening when the crankshaft position sensor (CPS) goes bad. Do a little searching on the net and you should come up with the ways to diagnose and test the coil and CPS.

When I first got my 92 CC it did the same thing. Died as I slowed, or went to take a right hand turn. ( that part was coincidence btw) The dealership changed out the speed sensor on the transmission and I haven't had that trouble since. I had all the symptoms that you described. Hope it helps.

well again thanks for all the help, I'll take another look at the truck in a couple days, since I've had my dads I havent really been driving mine, but i did fine the time to remove and throughly clean both my throttle body, IAC, and K&N so Im hoppin that helps, also when i was removing my TB I noticed that the vac line connected to the sensor on the front side of the throttle body was off, so maybe thats all the problem was well see in a couple days....

That sensor is the MAP sensor... sometimes the vacuum line to that dries up, cracks, or just plain comes off... that will do hell on the way the truck runs, but it would do it consistently. That could be a major factor in the issues you were having.

well after driving the truck the past two days i have discovered that it in fact is not the map sensor vac line, and that my cleaning the k&N and throttle body did practicly nothing to help the current problem, looks like this weekend i can get in to a heated garage to work on my baby, so anything you guys can tell me about where the speed sensor, or crank (cps) are located and how to test them as well as what it would cost to replace them would be a great help thanks

I'll throw out something...Bad Gas.

Before you waste too much more time, I'd throw a bottle or two of drygas in the tank and see what happens. Especially if you had the tank low and it gets cold where you're at.

Worth a shot - especially if everything is checking out and the ECU is happy.

Speed sensor is in transmission. You need to pull the speedometer cable out. it is attached to that. I am not a mechanic. All they did at the dealership was replace that part. As I said-same exact symptoms as you are having. This repair fixed them.

damn guys idk, i think im gonna have to bite the bullet and give her to a shop, died again today after filling her up with premium and an injector cleaner. when it died as usual it wont restart unless it sits or i hold the throttle wide open while cranking, at which point it idles really rough and needs to be held at 3k rpm to idle smooth while i was doing that it blew black smoke out the exhaust, what the hell?? im lost any other ideas?

The thing is.... I am pretty sure anyway... if it was the speed sensor it wouldn't affect idling or starting, right? It sounds to me like the IAC is bad, even though it is clean, it could still be bad. When driving and letting off the throttle it would have to go from closed to partially open, and if it doesn't do this the engine would stall. If it sticks closed and you try to restart it, you would have to hold the throttle open and wait for the IAC to finally react like it should for the engine to idle. I would replace that first and see what happens.

All I know is that when mine cut off, it would not start back up right away. There were times when I had to keep my left foot on the brake, and use the right to keep the rpms up so it wouldn't cut off. Like I said before, I am no mechanic. All I do know is that all of your syptoms are the exact same thing mine did. To the letter. I wont say that it couldnt be some thing else, but it is a strange coincidence that the exact same things happened to me and a speed sensor swap fixed it. What you do with that information is of course your business. Hope it helps. Ordinarily I dont chime in on maintenance related stuff based on my lack of experience. I just mentioned it because I thought this might be relevant. Good luck.

hey thanks for your input specialv42, i do appreciate it really, and i can see very clearly where dirt_devil is coming from i thought the same thing, wouldnt you have to be moving? but I am trying to get my truck in to my college to have the CAP program look at it (chrysler auto program) that way its free labor and just very conveniant.
but from what you guys have told me it is probably the speed sensor or iac sensor
ALSO i dont think i mentioned this but the truck will run fine and normal if i let it warm up to the point that the thermostate opens up, once it opens there is no problem

That says alot actually, the coolant temp sensor is probably bad.

I was thinking the IAC as well, but if its warm and the probelm goes away at idle, then its not the IAC, it's the coolant temp sensor. Usually there are two, one for the gauge and one for the ECU. If the ECU thinks the engine is cold, it will dump extra fuel to compensate. You're probably running way too rich until it warms up and the sensor registers enough heat that it adjusts the fuel mixture (Probably still rich).

Might be worth the cost of the sensor, I think they are pretty cheap. Of course if my point is valid, then you should be able to pull a plug or two when the engine is cold and running rough, and you might see the extra gas on the plug.
