I have a '96 Ram 5.2 2wd and the cruise control does not work. I bought it earlier this year and it hasn't worked since I have owned it. The light comes on on the steering wheel button, but doesn't hold speed when you hit the set button and let off of the gas pedal. I can't find any loose vacuum lines or anything obvious. Any ideas?

Mine did the same earlier this year. Closer inspection found a bad hard plastic vacuum line near the battery. Acid from terminal cleanings had eaten away at the plastic causing the leak. I cut out the damaged section and spliced in a piece of vacuum hose. That it fixed it. Check the hard plastic line for cracks. Check the servo under the battery tray for damage. It may be your clock spring. There are lots of posts covering this problem 170bcuda

I found the problem, the hard vaccum line under the battery tray was broken. I did not realize what a pain getting the battery tray out was until I started.
