Ok since i have moved to Cali I have had this problem twice and cant figure it out.

I turn on the truck it does its guage check anf the water temp guage stays all the way over on High. And this is after the truck has been sitting all night so its not warm at all. so i shut the truck off and restart and all is well. has anyone else had this problem?

ect sensor might be going bad

Either a sensor going bad, or you might try the ecm reset and see if that helps.

My guess is a short in the wiring

I had the same problem on my 2004. I changed the temp sensor. If that doesn't work then you have a short somewhere...

yea the temp sensor sounds right Ill try it first
