I have a delivery service and am looking at a '91 2.5L fuel inj. 4cyl. with auto/trans or a '93 f.i. 3.0L v6 with auto/trans to haul about 1500 lbs. in the cargo area, city driving, 30 minutes at each stop. I wanted to know what you thought the most reliable engine would be for this application.
Thanks, Stan (904)388-2628

FWIW, I would go with the 2.5 4cyl engine and auto trans. I'd choose that route cause I have seen way too many oil burning 3.0 and trans dropping 3.0 vans also.

I concur! Those "Trenton-4" 2.2's and 2.5's last forever. First thing you do is have the timing belt and water pump replaced and you'll have years of dependable service.

I agree - go with the 4-banger

check the timing belt; replace it if there is any doubt about its age

I suspect the fuel economy will be about the same with both
the 4 cylinder will teach you the virtue of patience but the 4 cylinder I believe is inherently a stouter engine

changing the plugs is a damned sight easier too and i would choose the 4 cylinder for no other reason than that
