I might be asking a dumb question but ill ask it anyway cause I haven't found the answer.

For example say you have a single cab but the cab itself has enough damage on it where it would be smarter to just swap a new bare cab onto it, is that possible/ "legal"

Long story short, can you swap a new bare cab onto your truck and keep the original VIN you had before?

Thanks in advance.

I think the Vin is tied to the cab. I believe everything else can be Swapped without issues

From other forums I've found both answers and different ways to go about it. I guess that most body shops have a tool that can remove the riveted vin on the dash and put on another cab. I believe there are legal ways to do it but I think I'm just going to not going to replace the cab

Be sure you have titles for both, in your name, and then ask your local MVD what to do. Your frame should also have a "hidden" VIN or two that can be located in case the VINs on the dash and door frame are tampered with.
