i need a power cord for my block heater and don't want to pay the dealership
price. could i get one from napa if so what is the part#. its a 2006 2500

The Cummins part number is 251919 and mine was $13.00 at the Cummins dealer last year.
hey dean is that the same cord for the 6.7 also
I got mine from the local Peterbilt dealership for 20 bucks out the door. I'd guess that any type of big truck dealership would have them though. I'm not sure of the part number but the man knew what I needed and went to the back and got it. The cord from the dealership has the little plastic mounting "buttons" to attach it to the frame but for a savings of 40 dollars I can live with my zip ties! 
Don't buy the from the dealership, mine wanted to charge me $74. I found mine on Ebay from a store that sold OEM Cummins parts, it was only $15-20.
ryderfleetproducts.com has them or 12 or 13 bucks.
And if you buy the truck with the option installed, they only charge $10 on the window sticker. Why in the hell is the stealership trying to charge $74. Oh, I forgot, thats why they are referred to as a stealership.:evillaugh
got mine off ebay for $24 shipped, prob. was cheaper at cummins but with my work schedule I couldn't get to one before they closed.
Does anybody know where this plugs in? My dealer didn't seem to know. I know...crazy.
remeber back in the old days you could hear the block heater kick in ,get your head down by the grill and listen for it to start working .
I cant hear mine on my 06 cummins , I traded an 05 Hemi for this truck and I couldnt hear it on that one either ?

the block heater cord plugs into a socket just behind the oild filter on the block should have a cap on it that just screws off and the cord plugs into it and tightens down with a nut that is supplied with the cord
On my Edge Attitude monitor I can measure engine temps at startup. On a cold day when I fire it up the monitor says the temp is at 100degC, but not plugged in, its close to the outside temp.Calgary Cummins said:Seems strange to me ,how do I know if it is working ?

This is a general question and might be a dumb one but does a block heater help out with gas milage at all? I thought that if the engine is all ready warm then it would use less diesel getting going on the cold days.

I've done everything but damn near crawl in there trying to hear it ,,lol
At what temps. should you start using the block heater. Mine came with one already installed. It gets down to about 35 in the mornings. I know I don't live where it gets freezing too often so I haven't worried about using the block heater. I have just been firing up the truck in the morning and then run back in and eat breakfast while it warms up. The high idle feature is great.
